Inspiration Behind the Pattern for the Crochet Dinosaur
I have long been eyeing cute amigurumi dinosaurs from other bloggers, and finally, I found the time and inspiration to make my own!
These prehistoric creatures have always fascinated me, and I find immense joy in crafting unique, handmade toys. So, why not crochet a dinosaur and add your creative twist?
The yarn
For my crochet dinosaur, I used plush yarn, but the beauty of this project lies in the versatility of yarn options. You can choose cotton yarn for a smooth texture and a wide range of vibrant colors or opt for budget-friendly acrylic yarn. The choice is yours, and it's an excellent opportunity to let your creativity shine by picking colors that reflect the playful nature of your dinosaur—think greens, blues, or even a fun mix of bright hues!
Size and Dimensions for the Crochet Dinosaur
A finished dinosaur will measure approximately 30 cm (about 12 inches) tall when sitting using the same yarn I used. The crochet dinosaur is the perfect size for cuddling, displaying on a shelf, or as a decorative piece in a child's room. This project won't take too long, making it ideal for beginners and experienced crocheters.

All the parts of the dinosaur are made separately and sewn together. You can use another type of yarn to make a bigger, smaller dino.

Adding finish around the eyes
Using black embroidery yarn (or thinner yarn than the plush yarn), insert the tapestry needle close to the eye, as shown in the 1. picture. Then, go up, following the eye to create an eyelid with the yarn. Go out again from where you started and back right next to the eye to create an eyelash.
Sew on eyebrows with black yarn.
Nostrils
On round 6, use plush white yarn to embroider nostrils. Use the eyes as a reference and embroider the nostrils with 6 sc stitches apart. Sew back and forth 6-7 times.
How to crochet the bobble stitch
Yarn over, insert the hook in the next stitch, and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops, repeat for a total of 4 times, until you have pulled up 5 loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through all loops— SC in the next stitch.
Place the head on the body, making sure that the head is between approximately rounds 12 -17.
Sew on the arms just between the head and the body. Sew on the feet between rounds 2-5, or where you see fitting.
Sew on the tail between rounds 5 - 15. Weave in all ends.
Sew on the spikes.
Sew the first one on the head between rounds 2-7.
Continue to sew on the spikes next to each other, following the head and the body. It does not matter if some spikes are in the middle of body parts, like between head and body or body and tail.
