Crochet jellyfish pattern - Jenny the Jelly

Jenny is a sweet crochet jellyfish that loves to just hang around in the ocean with her best friends, Wilbur and Annie. Wilbur, Annie, and Jenny are friendly and easy-going sea animals that you can whip up in no time.

Last week I released the pattern for this cute amigurumi whale. So I got inspired to make more patterns with different sea creatures. Since crochet jellyfishes are so popular, why not make some of those!

So expect more sea animals on this blog this season!

As usual, I have included the written pattern in English. Also, I made video tutorials in German and English. Scroll to get to the good stuff!

Materials

You can make them in all kinds of colors and yarn weight. I used some sports weight and worsted weight on my jellies. So that is a tip if you want to adjust the size, just use different yarn and a hook that matches.

Pdf version

You can purchase the ad-free version of the jellyfishes in my Etsy-shop as well as on Ravelry. You will get a printable version direct after payment. Thank you for supporting my work and for helping me continue to provide these fun and free patterns!

If you are making these for children, please make sure that all parts are safe and secure. Also, I would recommend sewing on the eyes if you are making these for babies. Just to be sure.

Crochet jellyfish - ragdoll version

Last year I made a ragdoll version of the jellyfishes. This is also an easy patter. They are crocheted in rows instead of rounds, and that adds a fun twist.

The finished size if the jellyfish is about 13 cm/7 inches including the tentacles.

I made two tentacle versions, one with spirals and one with chains. You can customize these by making longer or shorter ones.

Never miss a pattern!

I try do publish new patterns every week, so if you want to be on our list, you can sight up here.

Instructions

Body

Work in continuous rounds. Use a stitch marker and move it up as you finish the rounds.
Using a 3,5 crochet hook

Rnd 1: 6 sc in a mr = 6 sc
Rnd 2: sc inc x 6 = 12 sc
Rnd 3: (1 sc, sc inc) x 6 = 18 sc
Rnd 4: (2 sc, sc inc) x 6 = 24 sc
Rnd 5: (3 sc, sc inc) x 6 = 30 sc
Rnd 6- 10: 1 sc in each st = 30 sc

Rnd 11: In BLO: (3 sc, sc2tog) x 6 = 24
Add safety eyes on rows 9-10, 5 sc st space apart. Sew on a little mouth in the middle.
Rnd 12: Work through both loops as normal
(2 sc, sc2tog) x 6 = 18
Add filling materials
Rnd 13: (1 sc, sc2tog) x 6 = 12
Rnd 14: sc2tog x 6 = 6 sc
Fasten off, sew the hole closed.

Skirt

Attach some yarn at the back of the jellyfish, on a remaining loop from round 11.
Ch 3, 2 dc in the same st, 3 dc in each st = 90 dc
Sl st in the first st in the top of ch 3 and fasten off.

Tentacles

Option 1:
Simple tentacles
Chain 26 fasten off.
Make 5-6 chains in total. If you want you can make your chains longer or shorter.
Sew the tentacles on various places on the bottom.

Option 2: Spiral tentacles
Make 3

Ch 31, 2 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook. 3 sc in every st until the end of the row = 90 sc
Fasten off, leave a tail for fastening

If you want longer spirals, just add more chains and put 3 sc in each ch, like described above. I made mine starting with 31, 47, and 25 chains.
