Free Crochet Mini Ghost Pattern - Quick & Beginner-Friendly

Today I’m sharing a free crochet mini ghost pattern that is perfect for beginners and works up quickly with cotton yarn.

crochet mini ghost

This tiny Halloween project is simple, fast, and only uses basic stitches, making it a great choice if you want a quick win or a last-minute seasonal make. Even if you’re new to amigurumi, this mini ghost is easy to finish in under an hour. You only need a small amount of yarn to bring it to life. Add a pair of safety eyes and a tiny embroidered mouth, and you’ll have the cutest little ghost ready to decorate your home or gift to someone who loves handmade Halloween decor.

Here on Yarnhild, I love designing cozy, beginner-friendly patterns that can be finished in an evening — and this mini ghost is exactly that. Whether you're crocheting for yourself, your kids, or to sell at a market, this little project delivers maximum cuteness with minimal time and yarn.

Why This Crochet Mini Ghost is Perfect for Beginners

This ghost is intentionally designed to be easy and forgiving. The base is a simple tube shape, and the skirt uses a repeating ruffle pattern that doesn’t require stitch-count precision. The arms are created with bobble stitches, which add dimension without being complicated.

You won’t need to sew on any separate limbs or parts; just work in continuous rounds, add some safety eyes, and you’re done. It’s a great introduction to amigurumi if you’re intimidated by larger or more detailed plushies.

A Fast, Scrap-Friendly Halloween Project

You can finish one crochet mini ghost in under an hour — sometimes even faster if you’ve made one before. It’s perfect for last-minute gifts, Halloween party favors, or candy bowl fillers.

Since the ghost only uses a small amount of cotton yarn, it’s great for using up leftover scraps from other projects.

Yarn Notes & Substitutions

I designed this pattern for cotton yarn, which gives a soft but structured shape. Cotton makes the stitches crisp and defined, perfect for beginners. If you prefer a softer plushie feel, you can use velvet or chenille yarn, but expect the size and texture to change.

If using thicker yarn, increase the hook size to avoid overtightening and adjust the safety eye size accordingly.
