Today I want to share this video tutorial for a very simple and beginner-friendly shawl with you! I've been working on this project in-between other things this summer and I am excited to finally share it! This crochet shawl is a great project for beginners, but if you are an experienced crocheter, you will have fun with this pattern as well!

We are crocheting in the back loop only for the main section of the shawl, and this will ensure that the shawl has a nice structure. At the end, we are making a border using two different stitches to create an interesting finish.
I have chosen very rich and fall-related colors, but I'd love to make one in more neutrals color too. However, I thought these colors would be perfect for a shawl for this time of the year.
This is a worsted weight yarn and this was very easy and fun to work with. They have many pretty colors to choose from and I'd love to see your choises.

The yarn
The shawl is made with one yarn cake. For this shawl, I only used one cake, but if you want yours to be bigger, I recommend that you use two, or maybe add a few rows with a matching color from your stash. I made 62 rows and my shawl measures

Information
This asymmetrical shawl is worked in rows. The shawl increases one stitch each row. The main part is made with double crochet in the back loop only. If you want a straight color transition line, I advise you to separate the colors before you start. Save about 30 g/ 1 oz for the border. The shortest part of the border is made with the crab stitch. There is an extra help section on how to make the crab stitch. The longest part of the edge is made with picot stitches.
Patter gauge: 10 cm = 14 st and 5. DC in BLO
Skill level: Advanced beginner.
How to do the color changes.
Do the color changes on the same sides as we are increasing if you want a smooth color change. Yo like normal when doing a dc, yo the last pull through with the new color.
R 1: Ch 5, sk 4 ch, 2 dc in the first ch.= 2 dc
R 2: Ch 3, turn, (counts as one dc through the entire pattern) 1 dc in the same st in BLO. 1 dc in BLO, ch 1, sk 1 ch, 1 dc in the next ch. = 4 dc
R 3: Ch 4, turn, sk 1 ch, 1 dc in BLO across. 2 dc in last st. = 5 dc
R 4 -: Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in the same st in BLO, 1 dc in BLO across until ch 1 sp. Skip 1 ch, 1 dc in the next ch = 6 dc
Repeat rows 3 and 4 until you have 62 rows or more (depending on how big you want your shawl to be).
How to do the border – short side
If you end with a row 4 repeat, ch 1, do crab stitches across. If you end with a row 3 repeat, fasten off, and attach the yarn at the other side.
The crab stitch
Do not turn your work as normal. Chain 1, insert the hook in the stitch to the right from your chain 1, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through two loops. It’s like a normal single crochet but it is being crocheted in reverse. Repeat until end of this side. Sl st in a stitch on the side and fasten off.
How to do the border – long side
Attach yarn on around the dc space on the lower border at the beginning of the shawl
2 sc around the first dc space, ch 3, one picot stitch (sl st in sc), 1 sc. *Next dc space; 3 sc, next dc space, 2 sc, 1 picot stitch, 1 sc * Repeat until end of the border. Sl st in a stitch on the side to finish off. Weave in all ends.
