Crochet baby hat

Hi friends! I hope you all had a great week and Thanksgiving and that you have enjoyed some quality time with your friends and family! I’ve spend much of my time creating a new pattern for you, and this time I’ve made a crochet baby hat with a cute lamb appliqué! If you have been following my blog, I think you might recognise the face, because it’s the pretty similar to the face I used for Sverre and Solveig.

Many liked those lamb so much that I’ve decided to make other baby stuff with the same design. And who knows, maybe I will make something with a similar look in the future! Go to Facebook and check out the album that I’ve made where I’ve included all the pictures from the lamb that you have made!

I’ve included sizes for 0-3 months, 3-6 months and 6-12 months and if you need bigger sizes you can just brows the web, because there are so many great standard hat patterns out there! I’ve had testers who been helping me with the sizing, and as long as you use the same type of yarn and hook you should be good to go! I strongly recommend to make a swatch to make sure that the hat fits!

Free crochet pattern for the baby hat

(0-3 months, 3-6 months and 6-12 months)

Abbreviations used:

• ch – chain
• yo – yarn over
• st – stitch
• sl st – slip stitch
• sc – single crochet
• inc – Increase ( single crochet increase, two single crochet in one stitch)
• dec – Decrease ( to single crochet together)
• rnd – round
• bo – bobble stitch
• Hdc – half double crochet

Materials

• Yarn Group: C (16 – 19 stitches) / 10 ply / aran / worsted
• Weight/length: 50 g = 1,8 oz
• Grey number 02, 1,8 oz, off white 01, 0,7 oz. Left over in black, ca 11 inches

• Tapestry needle
• Scissor
• The pattern is written in US therms

Gauge:

10 cm, 3,93 inches = 12 hds

11 rows hds  = 10 cm, 3,93 inches

Size 0 – 3 months

Rnd 1) Magic ring and chain 2. (does not count as a hdc through the entire pattern) 9 hdc in the ring. Join with a sl st in the first hdc (not the chain 2, through the entire pattern)

Rnd 2) Ch 2, 2 hdc in each hdc. Sl st in the first hdc. (18 hdc)

Rnd 3) Ch 2, *1 hdc in the first hdc, 2 hdc in the next.* Sl st in the first hdc. (27 hdc)

Rnd 4) Ch 2, *1 hdc in the next 2 hdc, 2 hdc in the next.* Sl st in the first hdc. (36 hdc)

Rnd 5) Ch 2, *1 hdc in the next 3 hdc, 2 hdc in the next.* Sl st in the first hdc. (45 hdc)

Rnd 6 – 13) 1 hdc in each hdc for the entire round, repeat for 8 rounds.  Sl st in the first hdc. (45 hdc)

Rbd 14) Change color to off white. 1 sc in each hdc for the entire round. (45 hdc) Cut the yarn and weave in ends

Size 3-6 months

Rnd 1) Magic ring and chain 2. (does not count as a hdc through the entire pattern) 9 hdc in the ring. Join with a sl st in the first hdc (not the chain 2, through the entire pattern)

Rnd 2) Ch 2, 2 hdc in each hdc. Sl st in the first hdc. (18 hdc)

Rnd 3) Ch 2, *1 hdc in the first hdc, 2 hdc in the next.* Sl st in the first hdc. (27 hdc)

Rnd 4) Ch 2, *1 hdc in the next 2 hdc, 2 hdc in the next.* Sl st in the first hdc. (36 hdc)

Rnd 5) Ch 2, *1 hdc in the next 3 hdc, 2 hdc in the next.* Sl st in the first hdc. (45 hdc)

Rnd 7 – 17) 1 hdc in each hdc for the entire round, repeat for 10 rounds. Sl st in the first hdc. (54 hdc)

Rnd 18) Change color to off white. 1 sc in each hdc for the entire round. (54 hdc) Cut the yarn and weave in ends

Size 6-12 months

Rnd 1) Magic ring and chain 2. ( does not count as a hdc through the entire pattern) 9 hdc in the ring. Join with a sl st in the first hdc ( not the chain 2, through the entire pattern)

Rnd 2) Ch 2, 2 hdc in each hdc. Sl st in the first hdc. (18 hdc)

Rnd 3) Ch 2, *1 hdc in the first hdc, 2 hdc in the next.* Sl st in the first hdc. (27 hdc)

Rnd 4) Ch 2, *1 hdc in the next 2 hdc, 2 hdc in the next.* Sl st in the first hdc. (27 hdc)

Rnd 5) Ch 2, *1 hdc in the next 3 hdc, 2 hdc in the next.* Sl st in the first hdc. (45 hdc)

Rnd 6) Ch 2, *1 hdc in the next 4 hdc, 2 hdc in the next.* Sl st in the first hdc. (54 hdc)

Rnd 7) Ch 2, *1 hdc in the next 8 hdc, 2 hdc in the next.* Sl st in the first hdc. (60 hdc)

Rnd 8 – 20) 1 hdc in each hdc for the entire round, repeat for 12 rounds.  Sl st in the first hdc. (60 hdc)

Rnd 21) Change color to off white. 1 sc in each hdc for the entire round. (60 hdc) Cut the yarn and weave in ends

Lamb appliqué

Color off white hook size h/5,0 mm

Row 1) Chain 6, turn and sc in the second stitch from the hook and in each stitch. (5 sc)

Row 2) Chain 1, turn, 2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in the next 3 stitches, 2 sc in last stitch. (7 sc)

Row 3) Chain 1, turn, 2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in the next 5 stitches, 2 sc in the last stitch. (9 sc)

Row 4) Chain 1 turn, 2 sc in the first stitch, 1 sc in the next 7 stitches, 2 sc in the last stitch. (11 sc)

Row 5 – 8) Chain 1, turn, 1 sc in each stitch, repeat for 3 rows. (11 sc) When you have made the 3 rows do a sc around the face until you get to the plat part where the 11 sc are. Cut the yarn here.

Grab the same color as you have used for the hat. Flip the work, du a sl st in the first stitch of row 11 and do 3 sc.

Chain 3, yarn over, insert the hook in the same place as the chain three.

Pull through 2 loops. Repeat this until you have 5 loops in the hook. Yarn over and pull through all 5 loops. You are basically doing 5 dc in one stitch, but wait to pull through until you have all five loops in the hook

Row 9 ) Ch 3 and *1 bo, 1 sc* (repeat this for a total of 6 times) ch 1, turn. (6 bo, 5 sc)

Row 10) 1 sc dec, 1 sc in the next 7 stitches, 1 sc dec, ch 3, turn. (9 sc)

Row 11) *1 bobble, 1 sc*  (repeat this for a total of 4 times) Ch 1, cut the yarn, leave the strand a little long. (4 bobbles, 3 sc)

Sew on eyes and mouth.

Ears. Make 2 parts. Color off white

This part is worked in continuous rounds. I advise you to place marker at the beginning of each round and move the marker up as each round is completed to keep track of where you are. Do not join until instructed.

Rnd 1) Do a magic ring. Chain 1 and do 4 sc in the ring. ( 4 sc)

Rnd 2) 2 sc in every sc  (8 sc)

Rnd 3) *1 sc in the first sc, 2 sc in next*. (12 sc)

Rnd 4) *1 sc in the first 2 sc, 2 sc in next. (16 sc)

Rnd 5) 1 sc in every stitch for the entire round. (16 sc)

Rnd 6) *1 sc in the first 2 sc, 1 sc dec,* (12 sc)

Rnd 7) *1 sc in the next sc, 1 sc dec* (8 sc)

Rnd 8) 1 sc in each stitch around for the entire round, (8 sc)

Cut the yarn, weave in ends.

Sew the head on the hat. Use small stitches so it will look neat. You can place the appliqué the centre or on the side. Use the long tread for the bobble stitch to sew it on the hat. Make a pom pom in off white and fasten it on the top of the hat.
