How to crochet a simple basket

This week I have another stash-busting pattern for you! Since we all seem to have leftover yarn, what better way to use it up by making something practical and cute?

crochet basket

I love little baskets and storage solutions. I keep them on my desk, on the couch (a great way to store hooks and other items while crocheting and watching TV). Even my car has a little crocheted basket, you know, just to keep it cozy while driving.

These are perfect for gifting as well!

What better Easter treat for someone you love than a basket full of yarn and chocolate?

I made these after a request from a German follower. She saw these baskets on my Instagram feed and asked if I'd share the pattern.

Of course, I do!

I sometimes include affiliate links in my blog posts. That means I earn a small commission if you purchase any of the products I recommend, on no extra costs on your behalf. Thank you for supporting my work!

The bunnies and the Easter chicks fits perfectly in the basket! You can whip up one in no time and give away for Easter.

Or, you can make one to organise your clutter, makeup, yarn, or whatever you want.

Find the pattern for the cute bunny here!

One can never have too many baskets!

Video tutorial

There is also a video tutorial on how to make these baskets. To follow a video along with the written pattern can be very useful, especially for beginners!

Materials

You will not need much yarn for one basket, maybe about 60 g/ 2.12 oz. So again, perfect for leftovers! I used yarn from Hobbii, the cotton 8/8. You'll need a 4 mm crochet hook hook or a hook that matches your yarn.

  • a crochet hook (4.0 mm)
  • Some yarn I used worsted weight (cotton yarn).
  • Tapestry needle. (I bought these the other day, and I have to say, this is a game-changer).

All sales helps me continue my work. Thank you for your support!

Information about the pattern

The basket is worked in continuous rounds. Place a stitch marker after each round and move it up as you go.  You can make it with or without handles. I made the bottom in pink and then I alternated between green, blue and white and changed colors after every second round. The color on the last round is crocheted in green. You can change colors as you see fit.
