Easter is here in a couple of months, so I think it's time to share this easy and quick crochet chicken pattern. These cute chicks would look great in those Easter baskets. Check out the free basket pattern here.

If you are a beginner, this pattern is for you! However, more advanced crocheters would have fun making these too. Great for using up leftover yarn.

Materials for the crochet chicken
You only a little leftover yarn, some safety eyes, and little filling materials. For my chick, I used cotton yarn, but you can also go for acrylic or something else.
I used a 3.5 mm crochet hook and my chick is about 8 cm or 2.5 inches tall.
You only need small amounts of yarn for this cute crochet chicken, so this a great stash buster.

Ch–chain
R–round
St–stitch
Sc–single crochet
Sc dec–single crochet decrease
Sc inc–single crochet increase,
two single crochet in one
stitch
Mr –Magic ring
Sl st. – Sl st
Hdc – Half double crochet
Materials
-Crochet hook 3.5 mm
-Worsted weight yarn
Colors: yellow, orange and pink.
Only small amounts needed. The main color is yellow, 15 g of yarn needed.
-Tapestry needle
-8 mm safety eyes
-Stitch marker
-Stuffing materials
Instructions
Body
In yellow or alternative color.
R1: 6 sc in a mr (6 sc)
R2: sc inc x 6 (12 sc)
R3: (1 sc, sc inc) x 6 (18 sc)
R4: (2 sc, sc inc) x 6 (24 sc)
R5 – 11: 1 sc in every st for 7 rounds (24 sc)
R12: (2 sc, sc dec) x 6 (18 sc)
Place safety eyes between rows 8-9 with 6 sc space between the eyes. Add stuffing.
R13: (1 sc, sc dec) x 6 (12 sc)
R14: sc dec 6 times (6 sc)
Sew the hole closed.
Wings
Use the same color as the body.
Make 2.
Ch 7, 1 dc in the third ch from the hook and in the next 4 ch. (5 dc)
Sl st in the first st and fasten off. Leave a tail for fastening
Beak
In orange.
R1: 4 sc in a mr (4 sc)
R2: (1 sc, sc inc) x 2 (6 sc)
Sl st in the first st and fasten off. Leave a tail for fastening.
Bow
In purple or alternative color.
R1: Ch 11, 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and 1 sc in each st (10 sc). Ch 1, turn
R2-6: 1 sc in each st. Ch 1 turn (10 sc)
Fasten off. Wind some yarn around the middle (about 10 times or more). Leave a tail for fastening. Weave in ends.
Assembly
Sew on the wings on the side of the body, between rows 7-8.
Sew on the beak between the eyes. Fasten the bow on top of the head.
