Lately, I have read some great books, so I thought, why not crochet a bookmark for them? Today I am not only going to share a free crochet bookmark pattern with you, but I am also going to share some books that I like!
I love reading! Unfortunately, I don't find the time to read as much as I used to. You know with the current home-schooling situation, blogging, and making videos for YouTube. Moreover, there are pets that we need to take care of, house chores, exercise, etc.
However, I try to read every evening before I go to bed. So I'll at least get some reading done every day. I believe reading is important, especially in today's social media world!
Why I think reading is important
With all the smart devices around us and services like Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok we are exposed to tons of content. While fun at first, I have to admit I hardly remember anything after I stop scrolling and it's quite exhausting.
This is in stark contrast to reading an actual book. After reading a book, I often feel better, more relaxed, and with new energy and creativity to go after new projects.
Reading is also good for memory and it also improves communication within the brain! I believe crocheting does the same thing. Both hobbies are great for the mind, they reduce stress and allow us to calm down a bit from the real-world stress.
Reading also improves your attention span. In the article that I link to below, they write that the internet and social media split our attention. Reading, however, increases our attention span, especially in children!

crochet bookmark
The bookmark is inspired by the Sverre the lamb. I made a body with single crochet. As its tail, I made a little pompom. The pompom should stick out of the book, so just make sure to crochet your bookmark long enough.
I think they look cute and funny and they're both are lying in their books, fulfilling their bookmark chores. Also, that pompom tail adds an extra cuteness-factor.
This crochet bookmark is very easy to make, as 99% of my patterns. There is also a video tutorial for the more visual type. You can watch the video if you are.
I sometimes include affiliate links in my blog posts. That means that I earn a small commission if you purchase a product that I recommend, on no extra costs on your behalf. Thank you for your support!
Materials
You are going to need some sports weight yarn for this project. I crocheted my bookmark with a 2,5 mm crochet hook. I recommend to use thinner yarn for this, otherwise your bookmark will be very thick and bulky.
Reading suggestions
So for those of you who likes to read (I am guessing most of you, otherwise why would you need a bookmark?) 🙂
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah is a great book about World War 2 in France. It describes the strong relationship between two sisters, their struggles, heartache, losses, and victories.
It was hard to put this book down and it is one of the best books I've read. Even if it is brutal sometimes, it is definitely worth the read.
I also love reading crime novels. In Scandinavia, we have many great authors in the crime category in particular. Maybe the dark, long winter triggers the authors' fantasy, and they come up with fascinating stories murders and mysteries.
Whatever it is, it works! There are Jussi Adler-Olsen, Jo Nesbø, Arne Dahl, and Camilla Läckberg just to mention a few great authors.
Tell me in the comments below about your favorite book! I would love to hear what you like to read. It that way, we all get to discover new books!

Ears
Make 2. Worked in continuous rounds. Move up the stitch marker as you go
In nature colored yarn:
Rnd 1: 4 sc in a mr
Rnd 2: sc inc x 4 = 8 sc
Rnd 3: (1 sc, sc inc) x 4 = 12 sc
Rnd 3-4: 1 sc in each st = 12 sc
Rnd 5: (1 sc, sc2tog) x 4 = 8 sc
Rnd 6: 1 sc in each st =8 sc
S st in the first st. Leave a long tail for sewing. Flatten the base of the ears in half and sew back and forth a few timesPompom
Make a little pompom as its tail.
Simply wind some yarn around two fingers until you have a decent about of yarn. Carefully remove it and make a knot around it. Cut the loops and trim the pompom. A tip is to trim it down quite much. It will be fluffier then.
Assembly
Sew the head on the top of the bookmark. Attach the head between rows 4-5 on the backside of the head, also sew on the sides of the rows for extra stability. Sew on the pompom on the first rows. Sew on the ears on the sides.
