I am so excited to share this Tunisian crochet pattern with you –  “The Winter Sunset Scarf” I know, Tunisian crochet patterns aren’t so common and many haven’t tried Tunisian crochet. Today I am gonna show you how easy and fun it is! I made this simple scarf in children’s size. With some simple adjustments, you can make this for adults too! How to crochet a Tunisian scarf, video tutorial and free pattern

Tunisian crochet is a little different and I didn’t want to make 100 photos explaining how to do the different stitches that this pattern uses, like the knit stitch or the simple stitch and the purl stitch. So I’ve made a video tutorial! There will probably be more Tunisian crochet pattern in the future because I see a lot of other designers are starting to make patterns. I find this really exiting!

Tunisian crochet is very addictive, so consider yourself warned! But it is fun and not at all hard to learn. You also get to create a unique look and some stitches doesn’t look like crochet or knit at all (like the Tunisian simple stitch). Then you have the Tunisian knit stitch which looks totally like the knitted version but it is a lot thicker. Also, the rib stitch has a knitted look to it.

The Winter Sunset Scarf pattern

Back to the scarf pattern. You can also exclude the hole and just make it with the simple stitch. I started the scarf with the rib stitch to prevent rolling. If you have done some Tunisian crocheting before, you may have noticed that the work tend to curl up. There are a few things you can do to prevent rolling. You should always go up a couple of sizes from what the yarn label is recommending. My yarn asked for a size 6 and I choose a size 8 mm crochet hook. There are a couple of stitches that doesn’t curl up so much, like the rib stitch and the honeycomb stitch. The honeycomb stitch is really beautiful and I am going to show you how that works up some other time.

Tunisian crochet hooks

There are many Tunisian crochet hooks to choose from. At Amazon you can find them in all price ranges. I didn’t know if I liked Tunisian crochet, I choose some inexpensive ones. They were okay, but in the long run they were heavy and the quality weren’t that great.

After a while I bought this set from KnitPro This Tunisian crochet hooks set has a cable that allows me to carry many stitches. They are light weighted as well so making a bigger blanket with many stitches won’t be a problem with these hooks. The hooks feel luxurious and are made with of bamboo. I am like these hooks and they are light and smooth and I can crochet for hours with them. You get a lot for your money and if you plan do much Tunisian crochet, they are worth the investment. You get 8 hooks, from 3,5 mm to 8,00 mm. They are also compatible with other knit pro Tunisian hooks! II bought one 9 mm the other day and also, I have an orange 10,00 mm These not the same hooks but I can use them with the cable set. So that’s practical!
