Crochet Strawberry Octopus Free Pattern. Cute Amigurumi Crochet Plush

This is an easy crochet amigurumi pattern that even beginners can make. The strawberry Octopus is made with single crochet, and there is minimal sewing!

The inspiration behind The Crochet Octopus Strawberry, Ville

Crocheted octopuses are very popular nowadays, and thats not so strange, they are cute, easy to crochet, making this a great pattern for beginners. I have made a few octopuses before, a ragdoll version and a no-sew version. However, I never made a strawberry version!

Thats why Ville was born. By the way, the name comes from the word wild in Norwegian. Wild berries, and particularly wild strawberries, are one of the smallest and sweetest berries you can find in nature.

The yarn

For Ville, I used sports weight yarn in three colors: a cheerful red for the body, white for the little seeds dotted on his tummy, and green for the leafy greenery on top of his head. Sports weight gives him a nice, firm texture that holds his shape well, which is exactly what you want for amigurumi. Any sports-weight yarn you have on hand will work, just make sure your tension is nice and tight so the stuffing doesn't peek through!

I used cotton yarn, but you can also use chenille, velvet, or any other yarn you prefer.

Materials

  • Sports weight yarn in red, white, and green
  • 3.0 mm crochet hook
  • 12 mm safety eyes (x2)
  • Polyester stuffing
  • Yarn needle for sewing and weaving in ends
  • Scissors

Tips & Notes

Before you get started, here are a few things that will make your Ville-making experience much smoother:

Tension is your best friend. Since this is an amigurumi pattern, you want your stitches to be tighter than usual, so the stuffing stays hidden inside. If you can see gaps between stitches, try going down a hook size.

Add the safety eyes before stuffing. It's much easier to position them while the head is still open. Once you're happy with their placement, click them in securely from the inside.

The seeds are simple! The little white seeds on Ville's body are just surface embroidery using the white yarn; there is no need to attach anything separately. A few small straight stitches scattered around the body do the trick beautifully.

Tentacles get a little wiggly. That's completely normal and actually part of his charm! If you want them to hold more of a curl, you can lightly block them with a damp cloth and let them dry in the shape you like.

This pattern is great for confident beginners, if you know how to magic ring, increase, decrease, and single crochet in the round, you have everything you need to make Ville!

Closing

I hope you love making your very own Ville as much as I loved designing him! He's the perfect little project for a cozy afternoon, and he makes a wonderful gift too — especially for anyone who loves strawberries, the ocean, or just really cute things.

If you make him, I'd absolutely love to see your version! Share a photo in the comments or tag me on social media. Happy crocheting! 🍓

    Rnd 16: (SC, DEC) x 8 (16)

    Stuff firmly.

Rnd 17: SC in BLO (16)

    Rnd 18: SC DEC x 8 (8)

SL ST into the first ST and fasten off. Thread the tail through the front loops of Rnd 18 and pull tight to close the opening. Weave in ends.

Tentacles (8). Worked into BLO of Rnd 17

Note: Rnd 17 leaves 16 back loops. You will make 1 tentacle in every other BLO (skip 1 BLO between tentacles).

Turn the octopus upside down. Attach yarn with a SL ST in any BLO from Rnd 17.

Tentacle: CH 15. Starting in the 2nd CH from hook, work 2 SC in each CH across (28 SC).

SL ST into the same BLO where you attached the yarn (to anchor).

Move to next tentacle position: SL ST in the next BLO (skip loop), then SL ST in the next BLO (this is the next tentacle’s BLO).

Repeat around for a total of 8 tentacles.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
Strawberry Topping (Green). Made separately + sewn on

    Rnd 1: 5 SC in a MR (5)

Rnd 2-6: SC around st around (5)

    Rnd 7: SC INC x 5 (10)

    Create the leaves:

*CH 10, SL ST in the same ST, SL ST in the next 2 STS, CH 13 Sl ST into the same ST, SL ST into the next 2 STS*

Repeat from *.* all the way around.

Sl st into the first st, fasten off, and leave a long tail for sewing.

You can customize the leaves by adjusting the chain length to create different leaf sizes.

    Face (Embroidery)

    Mouth

Embroider a small mouth centered between the eyes (black or dark brown yarn).

    Optional

    Strawberry seeds (yellow or white)

Embroider yellow seeds around the mouth area (and wherever you want on the body).

Make small vertical stitches (about 1 stitch tall) or French knots.

Weave all ends inside and trim.
    Strawberry Seeds (French Knots)

Using white embroidery thread or yarn, add French knots evenly around the strawberry body to create the seeds.

How to make a French Knot:

  • Bring the needle up through the crochet piece.Place the needle in front of the yarn.
  • Wrap the yarn around the needle 2–3 times.
  • Insert the needle back into the fabric very close to where it came out.
  • Hold the wraps gently while pulling the needle through.
  • Pull tight to create a small knot.

Repeat around the strawberry body until you are happy with the number of seeds.

Tip: If you find French knots difficult, you can embroider small straight stitches instead.
