Easy Crochet Flower - Free 3-Layer Pattern (Beginner Friendly)
There's a special kind of joy in making something tiny and finished in under an hour. No deadlines, no measuring, no "do I have enough yarn" panic. Just a small, satisfying little thing in your hands. Here is an easy 3-layer crochet flower pattern you can make in no time!

That's exactly what this flower is.
It's a quick, 3-layer crochet flower made from leftovers, the bits at the bottom of your yarn basket that aren't quite enough for anything but feel too good to throw away. Three rounds, three layers, three different shades if you like. And then suddenly you have an embellishment that can live on a hat, a bag, a granny square, a bookmark, a gift, or strung along a piece of twine as the prettiest little garland.
Let's make some.
Why You'll Love This 3 Layer Crochet Flower
A few honest reasons this pattern keeps showing up in my projects:
It's quick. Genuinely quick, about 10 to 15 minutes per flower once you've made one. That's the kind of pattern you can squeeze into a coffee break or a single episode of something on TV.
It's beginner- friendly. If you can chain, slip stitch, and double crochet, you've already got the skills. The pattern uses one classic technique to get the layered look, working into the front and back loops separately, and I'll show you exactly how.
It uses almost no yarn. Each flower needs only a meter or two of yarn per round. This is a real stash buster, not the kind that asks you to use 200g of leftovers, just the actual scraps.
It looks more impressive than it is. The three layers create a little dimensional pop that makes the finished flower look like you spent a lot more time on it than you did. We love that.
And one I didn't expect: it's calming to make. There's something about the rhythm of three short rounds and a fasten-off that scratches the same brain itch as completing a small puzzle.

Skill Level & Time
Skill level: Beginner. If you've made a basic granny square, you can make this flower.
Time per flower: About 10–15 minutes.
Total project time: As long as you'd like, make one, make twelve, make a garland.
Yarn
You can use almost anything for this flower, which is part of why it's such a satisfying scrap project. That said, a few notes from making a lot of these:
Cotton (worsted / DK / sport weight) gives the cleanest, most defined petals. It also blocks beautifully if you decide you want the flowers to lie completely flat, for example, if you're sewing them onto a granny square blanket. Cotton is my first pick for spring and summer projects.
Acrylic (worsted / DK) gives softer, slightly fluffier petals, lovely for hats, hair clips, and anything that's going to be touched a lot. It's also more forgiving if you're new to crochet and your tension is still finding itself.
Wool blends sit somewhere in the middle and add a slightly fuzzy, vintage feel, beautiful for autumn projects.
